Caterpillar forklifts: different types

Caterpillar forklifts last for years; the first design originated in the 1960s. Continuous new developments ensure that the designs have a long lifespan and deliver good performance. Robustness, usability, and sustainability are the three core values incorporated into every series of forklifts. A distinction is made between three types of Caterpillar forklifts: diesel, LPG, and electrically powered machines.

About Caterpillar

On the Caterpillar website, their company is described as follows (source website): “Caterpillar is the global market leader in the production of construction and mining equipment, diesel and gas engines, industrial turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives. We are also a leading financial services provider through Caterpillar Financial Services.” “We have a long history of innovation and using leading technology to provide solutions to our customers. Whether we are exploring ways to move more dirt with less fuel, developing products that generate fewer emissions, or studying autonomous vehicle solutions, our strength lies in applying customer feedback to ideas and actions that ensure our customers’ success. Now and in the future.”

Three types of Caterpillar forklifts:

1. Diesel Forklift A diesel forklift is one of the heaviest workhorses in the world of internal transport. They are suitable for a wide range of tasks and are designed to withstand all weather conditions. For instance, a counterbalanced diesel forklift, such as a Cat® Lift Truck from the DP range, performs exceptionally well in wet or dirty working environments. The latest series of Cat diesel forklifts meets Tier 4 Final, has low emission levels, and uses as much as 21.6% less fuel. A diesel forklift is primarily used for loading and unloading trucks and filling containers. Additionally, a diesel forklift is widely used for moving goods to and from external storage areas or from one production area to another. A diesel forklift is available with a counterbalance in various sizes and with different lifting capacities. As a result, a diesel forklift is capable of transporting small pallet bulk materials as well as individual parts weighing several tons. A Cat® DP lift truck has a maximum lifting capacity of 1.5 tonnes (DP15N) to 16 tonnes (SP160N). The maximum lifting height is between 3 and 7 meters, depending on the type of mast with which the forklift is equipped.

2. Gas Forklift A gas-powered forklift is an excellent alternative to both a diesel and an electric forklift. Gas is a more environmentally friendly fuel than diesel, which means that a gas forklift, such as the Cat® Lift Trucks GP15-35N, can be used very effectively both outdoors and indoors. A gas forklift can be deployed for a wide variety of handling tasks indoors, for example in warehouses, but also outdoors for loading trucks and containers. A gas forklift is also suitable for transporting pallets, for example, to and from production lines. A major advantage over a diesel forklift is that a gas forklift is clean and quiet. In addition, a gas forklift is always available because, unlike an electric forklift, it does not need to be charged. An LPG lift is therefore ideally suited for working at remote locations: take enough spare LPG cylinders with you and the forklift will run as long as needed. Furthermore, replacing an empty gas cylinder with a full one on a CAT forklift is very simple.

3. Electric Forklifts The most environmentally friendly way to operate a forklift is to choose an electric forklift. They have low energy consumption and therefore low operating costs. The Cat® Lift Truck EP16-20 (C) PN series, for example, is specifically designed for indoor use. This electric forklift is the perfect choice for work environments with many handling activities, such as lifting goods into and out of racks to moving goods on the floor. This forklift is also particularly suitable for working in production environments where parts need to be quickly supplied or removed. Because electric forklifts are easy to maneuver, highly agile, and fast, they are widely used in warehouse applications. The load capacity of an electric Cat ranges from 1.0 to 1.5 tonnes and the lifting height ranges from 5 to 6 meters, making them suitable for most common storage areas and warehouses with wide aisles. In particular, three-wheeled trucks, such as the Cat Lift Trucks EP10-15KRT PAC and EP16-20 (C) PNT, have a particularly tight turning circle, making them especially suitable for use in warehouses and storage areas (warehousing). It goes without saying that an electric forklift can also be used for loading or unloading trucks.
